Robin Trower premieres new video ‘Birdsong’

Robin Trower released a new video for ‘Birdsong’ on Wed 5th October. Robin said: ‘Birdsong’ is my favourite track from ‘No More Worlds to Conquer’ (Mascot 2022). In fact, I think it could be the best thing I’ve ever done. In my eyes, I just can’t find fault with it.

“I had this particular piece of music for a while. The guitar parts and a melody for the vocals were there, but the song didn’t really come together ’till I saw a documentary about the First World War. It really struck me and got in my head. After I watched it, I started to write lyrics, and that’s what tied everything together.

“I don’t really do big demos anymore; I just play and sing into a little recorder. So with that, we went into the studio, and my engineer, Sam, put down a drum rhythm, and I laid down the guitar. We kind of make the demo as we record the song. Then we lay down all the guitar parts and the bass, and Richard Watts comes in to do the vocals. He did a great job on this track.

  5. Very nice! I’m a 69 year old guitar hack. I got to see you live, twice many years ago at a club just south of Seattle called Montana’s. Both great shows! Also got to see Johnny Winter there once. The first car next I ever saw was, believe it or not, Jimi Hendrix. I was in 7th or 8th grade in school. Thanks for all the great music over all these years!

  10. I’ve started listening to Mr. Trower when I was 15 (1976) and I’ve purchased everything he’s released since then. “No More Worlds to Conquer” is another great album by the legend. IMHO everything since “What Lies Beneath” is on the next level creatively.

  16. This is the haunting sound that first caught my ear with Bridge of Sighes. This is how I will always hear Robin Trower, just snaking around those sexy blue notes like nothing, worming the way into your brain and staying there like a melody you remember from a dream. Soooooo sweet…..

  32. Absolutely beautiful work. I have seen Robert and Richard play in Norwich a couple of times and Trower is guitarist who has the perfect balance between technique and feeling. This track highlights what Robin does best; songwriting and guitar playing! It’s also really great to see Robin in the studio.

  46. I’m so glad that RT is still recording, especially in light of the state of today’s “music”. When you come to the Coach House in the spring please consider my son’s band as an opening act. He carries the torch of the great players from the past but he’s just starting (19) and could use a break. Thank you.
